Revealed: Gladstone’s biggest crime with 1176 offences

Queensland Police statistics show how many offences have been reported in the Gladstone Regional Council local government area between January and July 2021.

The most commonly reported offences were against property at 1176.

Second were for drugs, totalling 862.

June had the highest rate of drug offence reports in 2021 standing at 185 and April had the lowest with 84.

Among the drug offences, five were for trafficking, 32 for production, and 26 supply reports were for selling drugs.

The next most commonly reported offences were breaches of domestic violence orders, totalling 557.

March was the worst month for DVO breaches with 112 reports, compared to 67 in the lowest month of January.

Then came good order offences standing at 541 reported incidents.

Obstructing police made up 289 of the good order offences and there were 239 reported public nuisances.

Fare evasions have been scarce in Gladstone during 2021 with only nine reports.

Traffic offence reports totalled 516 and most of the instances provided in the report were for drink driving - 356.

March had the most people busted for driving over the alcohol limit at 65, and July had the lowest with 39.

There were 125 disqualified driving reports and 34 dangerous operations of motor vehicles.

Hundreds of violent offences have been reported in Gladstone including 241 assaults in total.

Of these, 10 were “grievous” assaults which allegedly caused disfiguring, permanently disabling, or life threatening injuries.

There were 127 reported “serious” assaults.

Eleven robberies were reported, six of which were armed robberies.

Police received two reports of kidnapping and 46 of “life endangering acts”.

Four incidents of stalking were reported as well as a total of 71 sex offences, 21 of which were incidents relating to rape.

The data did not show how many sex offences were against children.

Hundreds of stealing offences were also reported including an overall count of 466 reported thefts, excluding unlawful entries.

January was the worst month for stealing with 76 incidents and March had the fewest reports at 55.

Items had been stolen from vehicles, 67 (including unlawful entry to vehicles), dwellings, 59, and shops, 92.

There had been 54 unlawful uses of motor vehicles, which included stolen cars.

Frauds reported this year stood at 146 including 51 credit card frauds, 10 computer frauds, and 19 identity frauds.

There had been 27 reports of handling stolen goods.

Police were aware of 210 unlawful entries including 140 burglaries, 8 of which were violent.

Other property damage reports sat at 266.

Dangerous weapons had been found by Gladstone Region police officers and there had been 81 reported incidents, including one that was concealed.

Arson reports totalled seven, liquor offences stood at 15, trespass and vagrancy at 26, and there were 2625 other miscellaneous offences.

Thankfully, there have been no homicide offences reported in the Gladstone Region so far in 2021.

Nor were there any reported instances of extortion, prostitution, gaming offences, explosives, or livestock offences.
