'One of a kind': Gladstone's chapel home up for sale

Here's your chance to live in a former Nambour chapel hall which was renovated into a six-bedroom home for a Gladstone family.

IT HAS the high ceilings, doors and features of a chapel but it's unlikely you'll be hearing a priest's prayer here.

It's because this former Nambour chapel hall was turned into a home for a Gladstone family in 2006.

Now the six-bedroom, three-bathroom classic colonial chapel is on the market.

Remax Gold Gladstone sales agent Anthony Williams said the owners had done "a huge amount of work" to turn the chapel into a home.

But key features including the high ceilings, the chapel-style arched doorway and hardwood floors give it a nod to its interesting history.

Listen:

"It's the only one of its kind in this town and one of very few up and down the east coast," he said.

"They had to relocate it in two pieces because the roof was too tall to get it under the power lines.

"Speaking to the neighbours they thought how will they transform that into a home."

And the quirky details don't end there.

They have also re-purposed a train carriage into an outdoor shed.

"Not satisfied with having just one unique structure on the property. They used the train carriage as a donger for the workers to stay there originally but they ended up keeping it to use as a shed or a music and arts space."

The kitchen bench was built using 70-year-old Oregon pine.

Mr Williams said the pine was used for many of the commercial buildings on Goondoon St too.

Expressions of interest have opened.

It will be open for inspections today and tomorrow from 11 - 11.30am.
