THE high number of rental properties available in Gladstone means rental agents are taking an aggressive approach to finding tenants.

Between October, 2006 and March, 2009, vacancy rates for Gladstone rentals were never higher than one per cent, representing one of the lowest rental vacancy rates in Queensland.

With this no longer the case, agents are now holding rental “open homes” and running advertisements for rentals instead of only property sales.

The new approach has seen the launch of a rental section in The Observer's real estate supplement, Property Week.

As of Saturday a whole page will be devoted to rental properties, the first time that rentals have been included in Property Week.

The section will be expanded over the coming weeks, with more pages devoted purely to rental properties.

The move is part of a direction change for Property Week, to adapt to local needs and the condition of the local rental market.
