Land on Park Street for lease through Gladstone Regional Council

In a bid to strengthen health services in Gladstone, the council is targeting health service providers through an expression of interest campaign to lease a parcel of land near the hospital.

Expressions of Interest for Gladstone land

In a unique bid to strengthen health services in Gladstone, the local council is targeting providers through an expression of interest campaign to lease a parcel of land near the hospital.

The vacant land is 2.51 hectares and located on the corner of Park Street and Palm Drive in West Gladstone and is in the vicinity of Gladstone Hospital.

The coastal town has been in the spotlight in recent months for its ongoing maternity crisis, which has forced expectant mothers to drive hundreds of kilometres to give birth.

Gladstone region Mayor Matt Burnett said the council was making the site available through an expression of interest campaign to a health service provider.

“This is a health precinct zone and council wants to see a health service provider set up here and strengthen health services locally,” Mr Burnett said.

“We know health is the responsibility of the state and federal governments and that there is a lack of health services nationwide but particularly in the regions.

“What we are offering here is a point of difference, a call out to specialists and medical professionals across the nation to consider what services or facilities they could provide in Gladstone.

“There is so much happening in the Gladstone region at the moment in terms of renewable energy and significant investment in new and existing industries, so what better time for either an existing medical centre to expand or a new health facility to establish.

“The land is available, it is zoned appropriately, ideally situated in a region with an exciting future and billions of dollars in industrial investment on the table.

“Here is a free block of land, come and set up here, you won’t be disappointed.”

He said the council was calling for people who were interested to contact its team through the expression of interest and say what they think they could do best with the site to support the community.

“We are open to options and want to help address the shortage of health services locally,” he said.

“We just want to solve this problem and we want to be part of the solution.”

Expressions of interest for the land at 48 Park Street would need to focus on proposals that meet its designated ‘health’ purpose.

Expressions of interest are open and close on April 3.

The council will seek an independent valuation of the land for potential leasing purposes.

Applicants are encouraged to review the information available on the council’s community leasing page prior to submitting an application.
