‘Wanted to spend my life with you’: Domestic violence offender cops fine

The man sent his victim a total of 20 messages on the same night despite a Domestic Violence Order being in place.

A domestic violence offender who sent his victim a series of messages faced the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday.

The man, 41, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Bevan Manthey to contravening a domestic violence order.

On May 24, Gladstone police attended an address in Mount Larcom in relation to a domestic violence incident.

Police then attended the victim’s address and spoke with her regarding it, she then provided her phone and messages from the defendant.

The first message was sent on May 23 at 3.59pm stating, “Please don’t call the police I just wanted to say how sorry I am for the way I treated you in the last few weeks. I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you and everything else that comes with it. I hate the thought of you crying alone because of me.”

Police located a further 18 text messages from the defendant’s number to the aggrieved on the same night.

They attended the defendant’s address and spoke to him regarding the messages, however, he declined to be interviewed but confirmed his mobile number.

The defendant could not provide any lawful or emergency reason for contacting the aggrieved and was issued a Notice to Appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court.

The man was convicted and fined $800. A conviction was recorded.
