A teen boy who stole while unlawfully entering Central Queensland properties has faced the Children’s Court where triggers for his offending were revealed.
The 15-year-old pleaded guilty in Gladstone Children’s Court to three counts of unlawful entry, and one count each of stealing and possessing suspected stolen property.
The court heard the boy entered properties at Calliope on July 5, and Clinton on July 14 and 19 respectively.
It was told he stole an electric scooter and he was found with a wristwatch that was suspected stolen property.
The court heard at the time of committing these offences, the boy was on probation for similar offending.
Solicitor Stephen White said since the offending, the boy had been removed from “a very toxic environment.”
“There was a very toxic influence,” Mr White said.
He said the boy had an interest in mechanics and had indicated he may like to pursue a career in that field.
“My submission is (the boy) would further benefit greatly from another probation order which can afford him more supervision,” Mr White said.
A Youth Justice court co-ordinator told Magistrate Mary Buchanan the boy had “maintained a very high level of compliance with his probation order.”
The co-ordinator said the boy was directed to report to his case worker twice a week and a youth worker once a week.
She said during sessions the boy had been able to identify a lot of the triggers for his offending, and he had also re-engaged with schooling.
The co-ordinator said the boy was also receiving appropriate psychological support.
Ms Buchanan placed the boy on six months’ probation and no convictions were recorded.
