A woman who allegedly played a role in Tuesday night’s Auckland Street brawl applied for bail in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Friday.
Shai-Anna Isabel Thomson, 25, allegedly handed her boyfriend Logan Moroney, 23, blocks of wood and knuckle dusters as the incident spiralled out of control.
Thomson appeared via video link and sobbed as her lawyer Rio Ramos gave Magistrate Bevan Manthey, Thomson’s side of the story.
“At the time of the offending she has heard some girls scuffling and that’s when she’s come out of the house and seen the fight,” the lawyer said.
“At that time she wanted to stop the fight, but she got hit in the back of the head with the bat.
“They were trying to defend other people from attacking their partners.”
Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd said the incident had been brewing for some time, after Thomson allegedly told the victim she would “have her boyfriend bash him” when he got out of jail weeks prior to the incident.
Reading from the victim impact statement, Mr Boyd said the two women involved in the incident allegedly brought lumps of wood and other weapons like knuckle dusters over to the fight.
Mr Boyd said Thomson allegedly played an active role in inciting the alleged violence with the other co-accused on the night of the incident.
“These are very serious offences and they do carry some significant terms of imprisonment,” he said.
“She is an unacceptable risk of committing other offences, interfering with witnesses and the like.”
Magistrate Manthey said the prosecution’s submissions were comprehensive.
“There’s no conditions I could put around her, even if I did grant bail, that would give me comfort and stop her committing other offences,” he said.
Thomson was denied bail and remanded in custody until February 1, when a brief of evidence will be finalised by the prosecution.
