Firefighters are leaving a grass fire in the hands of landowners after spending seven hours battling the blaze south of Gladstone on Sunday.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said the first of four crews arrived at the fire on Wuttke Road, South Trees, at 9.10am.
Wuttke Road almost runs adjacent to Gladstone-Benaraby Road between Barney Point and Boyne Island.
The spokeswoman said the fire was 900m by 150m as of 10.50am and burning at a slow to moderate speed.
She said fire crews conducted backburning in areas and machinery was used to install in containment lines.
During the first three hours here had been spot fires that jumped across the road, which crews worked to extinguish, she said.
Police were then called to assist with traffic control due to smoke.
At one point in the fight six units were at the scene.
By midafternoon there were still five firefighting crews at the scene, but they were all expected to leave shortly after 4pm with the fire left in the hands of landowners.
No homes were at risk from the blaze.
