Police biter pleads guilty to numerous offences after sick attack on a cop

A man’s bite pierced an arresting police officer’s shirt and skin, leaving him bloodied after the attack.

The man, 20, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to several charges including serious assault police and contravention of a domestic violence order in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Friday.

A man bit a police officer that was attempting to restrain him after a domestic violence incident, a court heard.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said the man’s offending started with a domestic violence incident at a Dalrymple Drive address.

She said while the arresting officer was attempting to handcuff the defendant, he reached up and bit the officer underneath his right arm pit at the top of his right ribs.

Sergeant Hoskins said the force of the bite broke the police officer’s skin through his shirt, which caused the bite site to bleed.

She said the victim moved his body away from the defendant which dragged the defendant’s teeth across the victim’s skin until the victim broke free.

Sergeant Hoskins said the victim stated words to the effect of, “You don’t bite police” and they continued to wrestle.

She said the defendant was restrained eventually and transported to the Gladstone watch-house.

The victim officer was required to attend Gladstone Base Hospital for treatment.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey convicted and sentenced the defendant to six months imprisonment with an immediate parole release date and an 18-month probation order. Convictions were recorded.
