A Gladstone man who made numerous derogatory comments about his partner on TikTok, has faced court.

Michael Terence Trafford, 46, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on February 19 to using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.

The court heard that in October, Trafford’s partner went to police and reported he had sent her offensive messages via the video sharing application TikTok.

The court was told that between September 22 and October 20, Trafford made “unwanted comments and offensive messages” on several videos that his partner shared on TikTok.

Some of Trafford’s comments were: “Don’t drop the soap in jail”; “Babies everywhere”; “What a f---ing dog two different girls hey lol”; “dogs, dogs, dogs” and “You are a joke.”

Trafford’s partner also told police she received a video message from him in which he made comments including: “Where’s (man’s name) tonight, is he still rooting for girls”; “he’s a freak like you”; “you’re still rooting him”; “what’s that say about you loser”; “you’ve got nice tail” and “you ugly dog”.

The court heard that Trafford’s partner provided police with screenshots of the comments he made and the videos he sent.

The prosecution said when Trafford was asked by police why he sent the video message, he told them he was “p---ed off” about (man’s name) sleeping with his partner.

When police asked Trafford whether he thought the video messages and Tik Tok comments were offensive, he replied: “They can take it how they want.”

The court heard that Trafford had a six-page criminal history which included drug offending.

Solicitor Rio Ramos said Trafford was now a full-time single parent.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Trafford $750 and a conviction was recorded.
