A young man has faced court for his involvement in a road rage incident at a Gladstone shopping centre carpark.

Luke Warrick Naylor pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on March 21 to public nuisance.

The court heard that at 12.05pm on February 20, police were called to a shopping centre at Gladstone’s Tank Street over reports the 24-year-old was threatening an elderly woman.

Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd said Naylor and the woman had been involved in a carpark traffic crash.

Mr Boyd said a witness told police that Naylor said to the elderly woman that he “would knock her out if she was a bloke.”

Mr Boyd said Naylor and his girlfriend then walked into the shopping centre and the witness waited with the elderly woman until police arrived.

The court heard that the elderly woman was reversing her car out of the shopping centre carpark when Naylor’s vehicle struck the back of hers.

The court was told that the elderly woman then got out of her vehicle and was confronted by Naylor, who yelled at her and said, “If you were a bloke, you’d already be on the ground.”

Mr Boyd said the elderly woman walked away and toward a group of bystanders who had stopped.

The prosecutor said the elderly woman felt “fearful and shaken” by Naylor’s behaviour.

Mr Boyd said the woman told police she heard Naylor yell into his phone, “I’m going to get as much as I can out of the b---h.”

Solicitor Rio Ramos said Naylor worked at a sports club in Gladstone.

Ms Ramos said Naylor realised there was no damage done to his car in the incident and he was remorseful for his actions on the day.

She said her client “simply overreacted” because the side of his car that was impacted was where his daughter usually sits.

Naylor was fined $800 and no conviction was recorded.
