A Gladstone man “forgot” he had fuelled up before waiting for a hot box spring roll and driving off without paying, a court heard.

Kristopher Mitchell McLachlan, 29, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court last Friday to unauthorised dealing with shop goods (maximum $150).

The court heard that on April 20, about 4.40am, McLachlan attended the Puma service station at Gladstone Central.

He proceeded to fill a white Mitsubishi Triton with 27 litres of diesel, then entered the service station and ordered a spring roll.

McLachlan attended Gladstone police station the next day and was questioned in relation to the offence, telling police he must have forgotten he got fuel after waiting for his spring roll.

He was shown stills from the CCTV footage and confirmed it was him.

McLachlan was fined $200 and ordered to pay $35 restitution to the service station for the stolen fuel.
