It was 3.30am when Jordan Dallas King walked into the gaming area at Gladstone’s Central Lane Hotel.
The 23-year-old approached the counter and demanded a drink from the manager who refused him service.
The manager proceeded to count cash proceeds from the night’s trading.
King then told the manager: “C’mon, I know you want to do it.”
The manager maintained his stance and refused King service.
King then said: “That’s fair enough. That’s a lot of cash, be careful, someone might take that from you. Do you want to shoot up some gear because you look like you’re on it?”
The manager replied, “I don’t do that stuff” and he asked King to leave.
King then reached over the counter, grabbed the manager’s arm and “pulled it over the counter” which caused him immediate pain.
The manager escaped King’s grip and King yelled: “I’ll knock you out you little prick, I’ll kill you.”
A group of nearby patrons then escorted King from the venue during the September incident.
King accepted that version of events in Gladstone Magistrates Court this week where he pleaded guilty to common assault.
The court heard he had no criminal history.
Solicitor Bianca Wieland said King was “very intoxicated” on the night of the incident and he had been drinking for several days after finding out his mum had been diagnosed with cancer.
Ms Wieland said King was currently unemployed having previously worked as a truck driver.
During sentencing, Magistrate Mary Buchanan told King that bar staff did not have to put up with that sort of behaviour.
She fined him $800, and no conviction was recorded.
