A pair of Gold Coast mates living in Gladstone for work started a nightclub altercation with security which spilt onto the main street.

Jackson Tekawa Tiopira Kauri-Warner, 20, and Christopher Jordan Waaka, 25, each pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday to one count of public nuisance.

A pair of Gold Coast mates fronted Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged after a nightclub melee.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Carl Spargo told the court police were called to Mieplace Nite Club after an altercation broke out between Waaka and nightclub security.

“Staff members from the venue asked Waaka to leave the premises and attempted to negotiate with him peacefully,” Mr Spargo said.

“The defendant (Waaka) became agitated and pushed a security guard with both hands, which caused other staff members to grab the defendant and forcibly escort him out of the venue.”

The fight spilled out into the middle of Goondoon St and during the melee Kauri-Warner attempted to strike staff using his fists, including striking a staff member from behind.

A court heard the altercation lasted around 10 minutes and police obtained CCTV footage of the incident.

When questioned, Kauri-Warner claimed he had no knowledge of the incident initially, before he eventually revealed he was involved.

Likewise, Waaka distanced himself from involvement in the fight before claiming responsibility.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey convicted and fined Kauri-Warner $1200, however, did not record a conviction.

Waaka was convicted and fined $800 for his involvement in the incident. He also escaped conviction.
