A Gladstone region teacher aide has faced court after she was nabbed in a random drug bust.
Sarah Annalise Van Bergen, 19, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on May 2 to possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Tanya Griffiths said on April 14, police intercepted Van Bergen’s vehicle for a roadside breath test.
Sgt Griffiths said police subsequently searched the vehicle and found 3.1g of cannabis in a plastic container, as well as an electric grinder which contained cannabis residue, and a bong.
Sgt Griffiths said Van Bergen told police all of the items were hers.
The court heard Van Bergen had no criminal history.
Solicitor Rio Ramos said Van Bergen worked as a teacher aide and she used cannabis for her mental health, insomnia, anxiety and depression, not being able to afford the medicinal product.
Acting Magistrate Mary Buchanan placed Van Bergen on a six-month good behaviour order with a $450 recognisance.
The order included a drug diversion condition.
No conviction was recorded.
