A Central Queensland mother with 18 prior domestic violence convictions has narrowly avoided being sent to jail after offending again.

The 32-year-old, who by law cannot be named, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to two counts of contravening a domestic violence order.

The court heard that since 2019, the woman had racked up 18 prior domestic violence convictions.

In relation to the latest offences before the court, it was told that police were called to a disturbance at the male aggrieved’s home after the woman went there when she was not allowed to under the order.

Then on a different day, the same thing occurred.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan said: “She doesn’t take any notice of the order. Surely she knows she’s facing a risk of imprisonment by going there (to the aggrieved’s home).”

Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd submitted for six months’ imprisonment with parole at the one-third mark.

But the woman’s solicitor Rio Ramos said her client “had a lot of children to look after” and submitted if a term of imprisonment was imposed, that it be with immediate parole.

Ms Ramos said in the past, the woman had experienced some issues with drugs but that had “ceased for a long time.”

The solicitor said the biggest problem was the woman and the aggrieved going to each other’s homes.

On July 24, Ms Buchanan sentenced the woman to three months’ jail with immediate parole.

Convictions were recorded.
