A drunk Central Queensland man who took off his shirt and ‘whipped’ a police officer with it has
Anzac Richard Nettles, aged 22, pleaded guilty before the Magistrate court on Wednesday, August 3, in Gladstone to one count each of assault against a police officer and obstructing police.
Prosecutor Sergeant Hoskins told the court that on June 4, Nettles removed his T-shirt and whipped a police officer with it out the front of Mieplace Niteclub in Gladstone.
The court heard Nettles was placed under arrest after he walked away stating “catch me, f---ing catch me”.
“When he was brought back to the watch house the defendant had a BAC reading of .189,” Hoskins said.
Nettles’ defence lawyer told the court that two days before this offence her client had suffered a miscarriage with his partner and was very “distraught over the loss”.
“My client admits he had been drinking excessively and that the offence was out of character behaviour,” she said.
Magistrate Milburn sentenced Nettles to 80 hours of community service and advised him to “seek assistance” if his drinking habits became a problem.
