A Central Queensland domestic violence offender will remain in custody until at least September 13 after a failed bail bid in Gladstone Magistrates Court.

The Gladstone father, 30, was charged with three counts of the contravention of a domestic violence order and aggravated offence and appeared in court on Thursday, August 17.

The court heard the man, a machinery operator, had a history of more than five domestic violence breaches and was also charged with the possession of dangerous drugs.

Prosecutor Tania Griffiths told the court that on August 7, 2022, the alleged victim was verbally assaulted by the defendant at her residence.

“Calling her names such as a sl--, scum and maggot,” Ms Griffiths said.

Ms Griffiths pointed out that on another occasion the defendant allegedly attended the back door of the victim’s address and said “I’m going to get you smashed up”.

Defence duty lawyer Kathia Toledo told Magistrate John Milburn that her client “wishes to offer the court assurance” and would seek counselling assistance in Gladstone if he were to be released.

“It is known that he has committed some offences in the past related to domestic violence,” Ms Toledo said.

“He just wanted to go and see his child.”

Mr Milburn denied the man’s request for bail ordered him to appear in court again next month.

“Bail is refused given there is an unacceptable amount of risk if released into the community,” he said.
