A cask wine drinking session led to a huge roadside breath test reading after a Gladstone man chose to drive home.
Christopher John Hargreaves, 43, pleaded guilty on Friday, October 29, to drink driving.
On August 14, around 5.30pm, Hargreaves was intercepted driving a Hyundai Excel on Chapman Drive, Clinton.
Hargreaves returned a positive roadside breath test and he was transported to Gladstone police station for further testing. He recorded a BAC of .223 - more than four times the legal limit.
When questioned, Hargreaves stated he had been at a mate’s house in Clinton drinking cask wine for the past half an hour and had drank less than half a four-litre cask.
He stated he had been to the bottle shop for more alcohol and was returning to his friend’s house.
Magistrate Bevan Manthey convicted and fined Hargreaves $1200 and suspended him from driving for 12 months. A conviction was recorded.
Jessica Rose Stanley, 33
A routine trip to the shops landed a woman in Gladstone Magistrates Court after she was intercepted by police.
Jessica Rose Stanley, 33 pleaded guilty on Monday, November 1, to unlicensed driving.
A court heard that on October 21, around 10.15am, police intercepted Stanley driving on Coase Street, West Gladstone.
Police spoke with Stanley who said she was unlicensed and had just left her house from close by to go to the shops, however, decided against it and returned home.
Police checks into Stanley’s drivers licence showed she had never held one and she was subsequently issued a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.
Magistrate Bevan Manthey said Stanley’s history would always come back to bite her in the future and she “needed to get her bloody licence”.
Stanley was convicted and fined $500 and suspended from driving for three months. A conviction was recorded.

A joy ride on an island paradise ended in a court date for a Gladstone woman who was intercepted by police after drinking beers, a court heard.

A court heard Fraser Island police intercepted Worland driving a silver Toyota Prado on September 21.
Worland was breath tested and subsequently transported to Fraser Island police station for further testing.
When questioned, Worland stated she had consumed three cans of heavy beer from midday after drinking scotch the night before.
Worland’s second breath test produced a breath analysis reading of .061 per cent.
Worland was issued a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.
Magistrate Bevan Manthey convicted and fined Worland $400 and suspended her from driving for one month. A conviction was recorded.
Lloyd Keith Harrison, 25
Lloyd Keith Harrison pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to unlicensed driving.
A court heard Harrison was intercepted by Calliope police driving a Toyota ute on the Bruce Highway, Mount Larcom.
Police checks revealed Harrison was disqualified by SPER on September 17 due to non-payment of outstanding fines.
Harrison offered no reason for driving while suspended and was subsequently issued a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.
Harrison was convicted and fined $300 and suspended from driving for one month.
Kyhan Dearne Robyn Windred, 38
A woman blamed the dental glue in her dentures for her drink driving offence, a court heard.
Kyhan Dearne Robyn Windred, 38, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to driving over a no alcohol limit.
A court heard that on Friday July 17, around 9pm, Calliope police intercepted Windred driving a Toyota sedan on Hampton Drive, Tannum Sands for a random breath test.
Police checks on Windred’s licence revealed she was the holder of a Queensland probationary license and therefore subject to a zero alcohol limit.
Windred’s breath test returned a positive result of .058 and the second .038 and she was questioned in relation to her drinking.
She stated she drank one beer around 10am, however, she wore dentures and the glue in the dentures had alcohol in it.
Windred was given a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.
Magistrate Bevan Manthey convicted Windred $700 and suspended her from driving for four months. A conviction was recorded.
