A Central Queensland man has been sentenced after he went on a spending spree with a stolen bank card.
Darryl Richard Holt, 51, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on May 15 to charges including one count of stealing and six counts of fraud.
The court heard that Holt stole a person’s bank card in January and then went on a spending spree with it that day.
He racked up $787.20 worth of purchases from several shops including a teddy and roses, goods from Woolworths, alcohol, and items from an adult store.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins described Holt’s one-day spending spree as “completely needless offending.”
In Queensland, Holt had a one-page criminal history and his Victorian criminal record was four pages long.
Solicitor Jun Pepito said in 2022, Holt’s partner passed away and he bought the teddy and roses to place at her gravesite.
Mr Pepito said Holt would not disclose what he purchased at the adult store.
The solicitor said Holt was receiving government benefits.
Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Holt $1200 and ordered he pay $787.20 restitution.
Convictions were recorded.
