A registered child sex offender has faced a Central Queensland court after he was busted breaching strict reporting conditions for the 10th time.

Jayden Keith Leigh, 26, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 17 to one count of failing to comply with reporting obligations under the Child Protection Act.

The court heard that Leigh failed to report as required in May last year at Goodna and he had previously been given suspended jail sentences for this type of offending.

“It is unfortunately a recurring event (reporting breaches), and the reason these mechanisms are put in place are clearly apparent - they are for the protection of the children in the community,” Police prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said.

Sgt Ongheen’s submission was for a six-month prison term and he said it would be up to the court to decide on immediate parole or not.

The court heard that Leigh’s latest breach happened while he was in rehab, he’d also undergone counselling with Lives Lived Well, and solicitor Jun Pepito said if a jail sentence was in range it should be suspended.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan noted that Leigh was already on parole and supervised in the community before sentencing him to two months’ jail, wholly suspended for an operational period of 18 months.

A conviction was recorded.
