A Tannum Sands man on a restriced licence who was involved in a car crash told police he had only consumed one beer the day of the incident, a court heard.

Azeem Raymond Gamble pleaded guilty in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to driving over the no alcohol limit holds provisional licence, learner licence or unlicensed.

On April 16, at 4.45pm, police attended a two-car crash on the Bruce Highway, River Ranch near the intersection with Calliope River Road.

One of the vehicles was a Holden Commodore which Gamble identified himself as the driver of and he supplied a sample of his breath for testing.

When questioned, Gamble admitted to consuming six beers the previous night and a beer at around 2pm that day.

Gamble then changed his answer to add he had consumed one and a half bottles of beer immediately after the crash but before police arrival.

Police then spoke with witnesses who had not seen Gamble consume any alcohol.

At 6.09pm Gamble supplied another sample of his breath for analysis which returned a reading of 0.031.

He was issued a Notice to Appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey convicted and fined Gamble $1000 and suspended him from driving for three months. A conviction was recorded.
