A Central Queensland man who allegedly committed more domestic violence offences while on a suspended sentence, has made a bid for freedom.

The 43-year-old mechanic appeared in custody in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday where he made a bail application.

He is charged with several offences including common assault (domestic violence offence), multiple counts of contravening a domestic violence order, and one count of possessing dangerous drugs.

The court heard the man was in a show cause position and the prosecution opposed bail.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said the man was currently on a suspended sentence for domestic violence offending (assault occasioning bodily harm) against the same woman and he was a risk of committing further offences.

The court heard the current alleged offences included the man spitting on the woman twice.

Solicitor Stephen White said his client was a father and a qualified mechanic who ran his own business.

He said his client had a stable, long-term rental residence and he was willing to comply with stringent reporting conditions and even wear an ankle bracelet if granted bail.

He also claimed the woman was “seeking out” his client by attending his residence which was putting him in a very difficult position.

Acting Magistrate Stephen Byrne noted the man was on a suspended sentence and added “you are very persistent in your alleged breaches.”

Mr Byrne refused bail and the case was adjourned to July 15.
