For six years Miki Gibson struggled with an eating disorder and to turn her life around she began learning about the nutrition and exercise her body needed.

Now after 10 years in the fitness industry where she helps others change their lives, she’s been voted by The Observer readers as Gladstone’s best personal trainer.

Ms Gibson is the owner of VibeFit Gladstone, a small independent and locally owned studio, for just over a year.

Before that she was part owner and manager of the business from 2017.

A Gladstone local, Ms Gibson has been a personal trainer since 2014 getting into the industry after suffering bulimia for six years as a teenager.

“The way I gout of it was to teach myself why my body needs nutrition and exercise,” she said.

“Teaching myself about that helped me to recover and now I want to teach other people.

“I feel like there a lot of myths and fads around the training people need to do and diets, so I want to teach people the real stuff and not the bulls**t.”

Each week Ms Gibson and her team train about 80 people.

She said the studio focuses on strength and conditioning training to increase muscle mass and help metabolism.

“We also do more coaching to help with mindset and nutrition guidance, so it’s everything else that goes with it and not just exercise,” she said.

“We have 80 members some of them are in small groups, some days are semi private and there are only a handful that get one-on-one but they all get the same support outside of coaching.”

Ms Gibson said she was passionate about her job because she knew she was changing lives.

“I’m actually helping people change their lives and that’s what makes it worth it for me,” she said.

“I had someone message me the other day saying they had been on a flight and it was the first time they’d sat on a plane and felt comfortable.

“It’s things like that which make a difference in people's lives.”

Ms Gibson said she was surprised to learn she was voted as Gladstone’s best personal trainer.

“I know I have the support of my clients but to have that many people take the time to vote really opens my eyes as to how many people I’m helping,” she said.

Also making the top five were Colleen Harris from CC Fitness Addicts, Tracey Howitt-Steven from Training with Tracey, Cherie Perks from Fitstop and Rav Vaàti from Move Freely.
