A Gladstone nightclub owner has vented his frustrations regarding Queensland Health’s new COVID-19 vaccine restrictions.
Once Queensland reaches its 80 per cent double dose milestone, estimated to be 17 December, people who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will be unable to visit venues like hospitals and pubs.
With the Gladstone Local Government Area lagging behind the State average for first Covid-19 dose administrations, Mieplace Niteclub owner Aodhan McCann said the ruling could change everything.
“At the end of the day it is a decision they’ve made, I don’t think it’s a good decision for our industry,” he said.
“If people are unvaccinated and not allowed in that potentially harms my business, if staff are unvaccinated they can’t work.”
Mr McCann said he was worried the State Government had gone the wrong way about getting people vaccinated.
“I think they should have said ‘if you choose to go unvaccinated, then you have to deal with the financial repercussions of specialist care in the ICU’,” he said.
“Forcing people to do it is not the right answer.”
Mr McCann said there was definitely going to be untoward effects on his business because he was already hearing of some staff who were unvaccinated, with some saying they will never be.
“That is their choice and I’m not going to push anyone either way because it is a decision they need to make,” he said.
“I’m not sure how the government expects to police this or what the fines are going to be for anyone who does breach, those are the things which will hurt the most.”
