An extensive and desperate four day search for a missing station hand through scrub in extreme Queensland heat has ended after man found alive and well. Here’s what we know.

Michael Carter has been found alive and well after a desperate four day search for the missing station hand through extreme Queensland heat.

The 40-year-old was picked up on the Landsborough highway about 7am Sunday morning, walking back towards Winton.

Winton Police Sergeant, Ben Lavington told the ABC that Mr Carter‘s “bush skills” were key to his survival during the four days.

Mr Carter, who is a station hand, is believed to have left the property on foot sometime between 9pm Wednesday and 5.30am Thursday and concerns are held for his safety as he has not contacted anyone.

With heatwave conditions continuing across the Central West, a desperate search was underway for 40-year-old, Michael Carter, who disappeared from Jarvisfield Station, near Winton, sometime between late Wednesday and early Thursday morning.

Police and local landholders have conducted an extensive mobile and aerial search for Mr Carter, including through dense bushland at the homestead on Kennedy Developmental Rd.

He is believed to have a limited supply of water which puts him at greater risk as temperatures soar above 40 degrees in the region.

Longreach Police Inspector, Julia Cook told the ABC the search area was “massive” and with Mr Carter’s bush skills, he could have traversed more than 100km by now.

Police are attempting to track Mr Carter‘s bank account to trace his movements.

Mr Carter, not a Winton local, lives in the quarters of the Jarvisfield homestead and works across multiple surrounding properties.

Michael is described as caucasian, 170cm tall with brown hair and brown eyes and wearing prescription safety glasses.
