Man horrified after seeing koala run over by driver

A LOCAL resident was horrified after he witnessed a koala being run over by a four-wheel drive on Monday morning.

BOB PARKHILL was horrified on Monday morning after he witnessed a koala being run over by a four-wheel drive.

He saw a koala on the road at 5.25am along Gladstone Monto Rd, just outside of Nagoorin.

"I thought I would stop and get a photo of it, because you don't see many around here," he said.

He said he was half way out the door when a car came past and ran over the animal.

Mr Parkhill said it had been an employee who was contracted for work near the area.

"A guy on a motorbike who was behind me at the time said these workers that are out there are running amok," he said.

"It comes down to having no respect for your area. It was definitely the saddest thing I've ever seen."

Mr Parkhill said he had contacted Roadtek Rockhampton's head environmentalist, who said he would look into the situation.
