Man treated for ”penetrative injury” to leg after bicycle accident at Baffle Creek

A Central Queensland man has suffered ‘penetrative injuries’ after he his leg was impaled by the handlebars of a bicycle.

Emergency crews have removed the handlebars of a bicycle from a Central Queensland man’s leg after he was impaled earlier this morning.

Paramedics responded to the incident south of Gladstone about 9.50am Saturday morning after a man in his 70s suffered “penetrative injuries” to his upper leg after crashing his bicycle.

About 10.30am QFES responded to the incident on Flat Rock Rd, Baffle Creek with paramedics already on scene.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews were tasked with removing part of the handlebars from his thigh upon arrival.

Fire crews remained on scene about 11.20am after the handlebars were successfully removed.

The QAS Flight Paramedic worked with local paramedics to treat the man.

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter then airlifted the man to the Bundaberg Base Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
