Federal Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd has refuted claims there is a lack of Pfizer vaccines available to the community.

On Friday, Labor candidate for Flynn Matt Burnett addressed media claiming he could not access the Pfizer jab as there was none available.

He joined opposition leader Anthony Albanese to address the lack of vaccines available for regional communities.

“They said there was none available at any local GP, so as candidate for Flynn … I called Anthony Albanese,” he said.

Mr Albanese said the government needed to do ‘better in terms of regional communities.’

Mr O’Dowd said pfizer vaccines were currently available from GPs in Gladstone and more were on their way.

“The Prime Minister said on Friday Australia’s Pfizer supply will increase to approximately one million doses per week from mid July,” he said.

“People can head to www.health.gov.au to complete the eligibility checker and find their closest GP clinic to book their vaccination.”

It comes after a nurse from Port Curtis Medical Centre said there was not enough shipments coming into the region.

“We definitely could do more, there are shipments coming but it’s not enough,” she said.
