How much rain fell in the Gladstone region

The Gladstone region had a wet finish to winter, copping a storm overnight Monday which gave the area a much needed drenching. How much was in your rain gauge?

The Gladstone region copped a much needed drenching of rain overnight Monday with loud thunder and a brief lightning show reminding residents that warmer weather approaching.

A Bureau of Meteorology spokeswoman said all the weather elements lined up to create the perfect storm which dropped up to 50 millimetres on the region.

“It all lined up perfectly, there was a surface trough which has been able to lift that moist air coming onshore,” she said.

“Gladstone picked up the edge of the system, but as long as that trough is active there could be a couple more millimetres today.”

Dululu recorded 71mm, Gladstone airport received 51mm and Boyne Island had 38mm but the BOM spokeswoman said rain of that intensity was not likely on Tuesday.

“There is just the few potential millimetres coming through today and then that will be it unfortunately,” she said.

“We are expecting it to ease off throughout the course of the day, it will not be a sunny day whatsoever, but any rain activity will predominantly be one to five millimetres.”
