The next stage of the Lake Awoonga Water Mains Renewal Project commenced at the weekend, with works on water mains servicing Aerodrome Road from J. Hickey Avenue to Clark Street taking place.

The works commenced on July 31, with residents notified in advance, and are expected to last until December 20.

Construction work times will be Monday to Friday, 6.30am-6pm; and 8am-4pm Saturday and Sunday. Some night works may be considered.

Councillor Chris Cameron said the Project aimed to deliver a more reliable water supply for residents, with the new infrastructure expected to help reduce unplanned water interruptions.

“The project includes removal of existing water mains, installation of temporary above groundwater lines, installation of new water main and new water main connection, testing and activation of the new water main and removal of temporary water lines,” Mr Cameron said.

“These works will require some disruption to water supply and there may be some machinery noise generated by the works as well.

“Council advises motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to please be mindful of these works as they take place and progress along Aerodrome Road between J. Hickey Avenue to Clark Street.”

Works have commenced at the J. Hickey Avenue end of Aerodrome Road.

The Lake Awoonga Water Mains Renewal project forms part of Council’s 2021/22 Capital Works program.

This project commenced at New Auckland in early July (encompassing Sandpiper Avenue from Lorikeet Avenue to Cockatoo Drive) and those works are expected to be completed later this month.

Water mains renewal works in the Gladstone Central area are set to commence later this year (covering Auckland Street from Tank Street to Short Street) and are expected to be completed by February 2022.
