The joint works of Ping Carlyon, Tom Holden and Calum White have been unveiled at 153 Auckland Street, as the first part of the regional art project ‘Postcards From Gladstone’.

The mural at 153 Auckland Street took about 300 hours of work as the surface was uneven and all painting had to be done by hand.

The ‘Postcards From Gladstone’ mural art project is a community-building project created by local artists, which will see a number of murals painted along Auckland Street to enhance the visual appeal of the area.

The mural at 153 Auckland Street was supported by the Gladstone Regional Council Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) for a third of the labour, with support also offered by Seaweigh and The Blue Mirror.

The Blue Mirror gallery director Helen Holden said that the aim of the project was to produce public art of local significance.

“Numerous artists will have the opportunity to develop their skills through mentorship and collaboration, while benefiting from the public recognition of their design and/or painted mural work,” Ms Holden said.

“This approach builds the capacity of local artists to be self-employed.”

Dates for the other planned murals are yet to be announced.
