Flynn candidate Matt Burnett aims to create 100 jobs thanks to the Biloela New Industry Hub

Biloela is poised to become a hub for Central Queensland employment opportunities if the Australian Labor Party takes power. Find out how here:

Biloela is on the verge of being named a major centre of employment if the Australian Labor Party is victorious at the upcoming federal election.

Gladstone Mayor and Labor’s candidate for Flynn Matt Burnett said the $2 million Biloela New Industry Hub had the potential to create up to 100 skilled local jobs.

“This facility will give local entrepreneurs the workshop space they need to compete for more industrial work, leading to more skilled jobs for local workers,” said Mr Burnett.

“Through this commitment, Labor is backing up to 100 local jobs for boilermakers, electricians, fitters and turners, carpenters, operators, machinists and fabricators.

“The Biloela New Industry Hub will bring jobs in servicing energy generation and transmission projects, advanced manufacturing and fabrication, and setting local business up for future export opportunities through Inland Rail, which is now the subject of a business case.

“If we‘re going to double our state’s energy output, Central Queensland is the powerhouse that is going to get us there, and Biloela will play a critical role in that future.

“It's not just jobs in construction. It’s jobs in operations, jobs in manufacturing, jobs in agriculture, jobs in transport, jobs in resources, and jobs in exports.”

Shadow Minister for Northern Australia and Queensland Resources Senator Murray Watt said it was critical to regional towns like Biloela that governments were securing the jobs of today and investing in their diverse industrial future.

“Central Queensland deserves to get its share of the new jobs that are coming in energy generation and advanced manufacturing,” Senator Watt said.

“Matt Burnett and I have been calling on the Morrison Government to get behind this project for months, but to no one’s surprise they’re nowhere to be seen.

“Matt Burnett has a proven track record of securing Gladstone’s industrial future through hydrogen production, supercharging the port, and fighting for the Inland Rail to CQ.”

Banana Shire Mayor Nev Ferrier was excited about how the partnership would help drive industrial innovation and set up the region’s future.

“The Banana Shire has a proud agricultural and resources heritage but we need to grow our skilled workforce and create more job opportunities for locals,” Mr Ferrier said.

“This Biloela New Industry Hub will provide low-cost business start-up capacity for new innovative industrial businesses servicing the Biloela and Banana Shire region.”

“Wind and new energy projects are already being built in the Banana Shire; this new hub means Biloela locals will also have the opportunity to get the jobs that are coming in manufacturing, servicing and maintenance.”
