Family loses house after devastating Moura blaze

A Central Queensland family with five young children has lost absolutely everything in a devastating blaze. The father didn’t even have time to grab a shirt. Here is how you can help them.

The Central Queensland community is rallying around Moura’s Bloomfield family after they lost everything when a fire ripped through their home on Monday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said crews were called to reports of a house fire on Hicks Street at 12.35pm on January 17.

Three fire crews attended and the building was ‘fully involved’ by fire.

The fire was under control by 1.25pm and it was extinguished by 3.30pm.

The spokesman said they conducted atmospheric testing at 4.30pm and all levels were normal.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.

Family friend Mandy Thorne has started a GoFundMe for the family of seven, revealing all they had left was their car.

“I have set this GoFundMe page up to help the large family of seven restart their lives with the funds donated being used to purchase an entire house of furniture and a new car and toys for the kids plus clothes and more,” she said.

“They have nothing left but the car and the keys got melted by the fire.

“Please help us help them. Let’s show this family how we far and wide can band together for the good and let’s help them recover after their disaster.

“This is not just a simple situation, a family with five young children have lost absolutely everything from their entire life history, memories and more to this tragic house fire leaving them without a place to call home.

“The father escaped with just a pair of shorts, he didn’t even have time to get a shirt. And I am telling you all, he would be one to give another his shirt off his own back even if it was his last to help another person in need.

“So let’s do this for him and his family. He works and therefore not entitled to Centrelink so please open your hearts and dig deep. Because one day this could be you or your family in need.”
