Two people died at the scene of separate crashes in the same location north of Gladstone on Wednesday marking a disastrous day on Central Queensland roads.

The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the two incidents as police investigators are appealing for public information and dashcam footage.

Two patients, a man in his 30s and a 21-year-old woman, who were earlier treated in critical conditions died at the scene of the fatal crashes at East End, south of Mt Larcom, in the Gladstone region.

The man was the driver of a truck which rolled over on the Bruce Hwy about 1.10pm.

Shortly after, the 21-year-old woman — who was the passenger in a car involved in a two-vehicle crash with a separate truck at the same location — died at the scene.

The Bruce Hwy at Mt Larcom was closed in both directions for about 11 hours until midnight and diversions were in place to help navigate motorists around the crucial route which connects Gladstone and Rockhampton.

Critical care paramedics responded to calls for assistance following reports of a two separate incidents involving three vehicles, including a truck rollover.

At least four Queensland Ambulance Services and three Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews arrived at the scene a short time later, with two rescue helicopters tasked to the scene.

Queensland Police wee also in attendance to assist with traffic diversions.

Crews navigated difficult conditions as isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms lashed parts of Central Queensland.

A short time before the rollover and then two-vehicle crash, it is understood a vehicle was clipped by another car further south in the region at Gladstone-Benaraby Rd, Wurdong Heights.

A total of five patients were transported to hospital across the three incidents.

A female in her 20s, understood to be an occupant in one of the vehicles at East End, was airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition with pelvic injuries.

Two males, including one in his 20s — who were also understood to be occupants at East End — were transported to Gladstone Hospital via road in stable conditions.

A teenage male and a female in her 40s, who were occupants in the vehicle at Wurdong Heights, were transported via road to Gladstone Hospital in stable conditions.

Long delays occurred in both directions for that section of the Bruce Hwy and motorists were urged to avoid the area if possible.

Diversions are in place via Calliope River Rd and Gladstone Mt Larcom Rd.

A police spokeswoman said motorists could still access Gladstone via the alternative northern routes and urged motorists to avoid the area.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and anyone with information or dashcam footage are urged to contact police.
