UPDATE 2.10pm A fire that jumped Gladstone Benaraby Road and spread toward homes has been brought under control.
Seven crews of fire fighters in vehicles from Gladstone, Tannum Sands and Benaraby battled the blaze that broke out about 11.30am.
The fire was fanned by gusty winds, quickly moving through parched grass and bushland.
It is anticipated Gladstone Benaraby Road will be reopened to traffic when fire fighters have finished mopping up hot spots.
UPDATE: 1.40pmSeven crews of fire fighters are now battling to stop a fire at Glen Eden spreading to impact nearby homes.
Winds are increasing and fanning the flames, while Gladstone Benaraby Road remains closed in both directions near the Glen Eden turn-off.
Fire fighters at the scene have called for a tanker to bring more water supplies to smaller appliances.
Neighbours have offered fire fighters access from the back of their properties to attack the flames.
UPDATE: 12.40pm Gladstone Benaraby Road is closed near the Glen Eden intersection due to a grass fire that has jumped the road.
Gusty winds are fanning the flames burning adjacent to the train line as fire fighters tackle the blaze with hoses.
According to the Rural Fire Service Queensland, three crews are on the scene and a further crew is responding.
“Smoke may affect residents and motorists in the area,” the Rural Fire Service said.
“Residents should close their doors and windows and keep medication close by if suffering from a respiratory condition.
“Motorists should use caution and drive to conditions.
“If you believe your property is under threat, you should call triple-0 (000) immediately.”
INITIAL REPORT: 11.39am Fire fighters are currently on the way to a grass fire on Gladstone Benaraby Road.
A Queensland Fire communications spokeswoman said Gladstone crews were called to a grass fire on Gladstone Benaraby Road near the Glen Eden turn-off about 11.30am.
“There is a grass fire near the Glen Eden turn-off,” the spokeswoman said.
“Crews are responding but it’s nothing untoward.”
No home or structures are understood to be under threat.
