Benaraby Landfill will have concrete stockpiles removed as part of a $2 million clean-up project.
In a general meeting on June 15, Gladstone Regional Council unanimously voted to enter a 27-month agreement with Stiller’s Recycling to remove processed and unprocessed concrete waste.
Stiller’s Recycling will spend three months removing the debris from the site, and the next two years maintaining a regimen for new concrete waste as it is deposited to landfill.
Stiller’s will be responsible for loading, carting and disposing of the concrete-waste types at a lawful location off site.
To allow for the removal of the concrete waste from the Benaraby Landfill, the off site locations and the operators of these sites for receipt and onselling of the concrete waste, must be registered for End of Waste (EOW) Code – Returned Concrete under the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011.
The expenditure costs for the project is estimated at $2 million, which councillor Darryl Branthwaite dubbed as the ‘best value’ for Gladstone Regional Council during the meeting.
