Calliope Rodeo and Specialty Events team looking at alternative dates for showpiece event

No bull, the Calliope Rodeo and Specialty Events 2022 Australia Day rodeo has been postponed.

The CRSE’s publicity officer Debbie Parr confirmed the event would not be held on January 22 due to Queensland Government Covid-19 legislation.

“The reason we postponed it is because with regulations changing all the time we really didn’t want to risk getting a fine for something potentially that we didn’t know was wrong,” Ms Parr said.

“We read the legislation almost daily to try and keep up with what’s going on and we just figured that we don’t want to get a fine and they have their own limitations.”

Ms Parr said the event, now in its fifth year, was around 90 per cent organised at the time the CRSE chose to postpone it.

“It is disheartening, in a time where we kind of are all looking forward to something good,” she said.

“When something like this is kind of taken away from you, you do feel disheartened that you can’t continue with something that is really awesome for our community.”

Ms Parr had a message for long-term attendees or fans of the event who might be feeling dejected about the event’s postponement.

“We look forward to having you whenever we can hold an event,” she said.

“Don’t be disheartened, keep going, hold the line and we will be back.”

Ms Parr said the Australia Day rodeo event had not been rescheduled as yet as she was unaware of what the restrictions were going to be.

“We’ve gotta go with restrictions and keep in mind that other towns in the region have rodeos which riders potentially will attend, we’ll pick a date later on and go from there.”
