Gladstone Golf Club plans to relocate from Kin Kora to new 18-hole championship course and will engage Richard Chamberlain Golf Design

A popular golf club in the Gladstone region have revealed plans for a new, 18-hole championship course fitted with expanded social spaces, waterfront views, a practise putting green, mini golf, and indoor golf simulators. Here’s when you’ll be able to tee-off.

An immaculate 18-hole golf course is set to be built in the Gladstone region, decked out with an exclusive club house and caravan park sure to attract budding golfers from across the state.

The Gladstone Golf Club has plans for a major development of an all new 18-hole course at a new location which will supersede the existing course at Kin Kora.

The new precinct will offer a practise putting green, mini golf, and indoor golf simulators which are already enjoyed at the current facility.

An expanded event space and leisure options with great waterfront views will also be provided at the accompanying club house.

Gladstone Golf has secured several parcels of land near Byelle which will become the site for the new course.

With access via Jefferis Rd, Beecher the course will border Clyde Creek to its south and the Byellee Wildlife Reserve on the western side.

Construction is set to begin in 2025 with the project completion date estimated for 2027.

In a statement, the Club said its current site had become suffocated by “reverse amenity pressures” and was becoming unviable to provide a true 18 hole championship course due to land constraints.

The Club believes rather than reducing the current offering to nine holes, it was in the best long-term interest of the course, Club, and patrons to find a spacious new location.

If approved by Gladstone Regional Council — subject to a Development Application — the new facility will be designed in collaboration with Richard Chamberlain Golf Design.

Award-winning firm, Place Design Group, has been engaged as the lead consultant to assist during the planning and design phase.

Place Design Group has worked on projects such as Parkwood Golf Club (Gold Coast), Victoria Park (Brisbane) and the Yeppoon Foreshore redevelopment.

Gladstone Golf Club Director of Golf, Kane Nusteling told the Gladstone Observer it was extremely exciting to start planning for the new course.

Project timeline:

Stage 1 – DA approval (18 months) October 2022 – April 2024

Stage 2 – Design and planning (18 months following approval) April 2024 – October 2025

Stage 3 – Construction (18 months from design and planning) October 2025 – April 2027

The Gladstone Golf Club is encouraging the community to provide feedback regarding the proposed design, and further consultations will be advertised to members and the wider community at the relevant time.

Yaralla Sports Club CEO, Will Schroeder said members are very excited and supportive of the project but it remains at its early stages and the club will seek to work closely with GRC and state regulatory authorities.

“There are no defined plans for the existing site and we are very keen to work with Council to determine the highest and best use for the property,” Mr Schroeder said.

A Gladstone Regional Council spokesman said they have not yet received a DA for the golf course.
