Tourist hotspot fire extinguished as crews mop up

Guests were evacuated from an Agnes Water motel on Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in the laundry.

A popular Central Queensland tourist motel was evacuated Wednesday morning as fire ripped through the internal laundromat.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services received a call for assistance at the Mango Tree Hotel on Agnes Street in Agnes Water around 11.30am.

A QFES spokesman said four crews attended the scene and contained the blaze.

He said the fire was brought under control around 12.05pm and fortunately did not spread into the roof of the facility.

Additionally, the fire was also contained to the laundry and did not spread to adjoining hotel rooms.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said no patients were assessed by paramedics as a result of the fire.

It is understood the motel, which is one of the closest to the beachfront in Agnes Water, was totally evacuated.

With the Queensland school holidays in full swing, the motel’s website shows it is totally booked out bar one room up until this weekend.
