A man who was taken to hospital and yelled racial slurs at staff had to be sedated after his outbursts, the Gladstone Magistrates Court heard on January 24.

Beau Angus Sawley, 29, was admitted to the Gladstone Hospital about 2.19am on September 12, 2021.

Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd said Sawley was agitated and yelling, and had to be sedated.

The court heard Sawley was yelling things like ‘charge me’ and ‘show me the f--king film’.

He then started racially abusing hospital staff, calling one a ‘curry muncher’ and another a ‘n-----’.

Mr Boyd said Sawley yelled out ‘go back to your own country’.

Defence solicitor Bianca Wieland said Sawley was admitted to hospital after drinking and having a fight with a family member.

Ms Wieland said Sawley was remorseful.

Sawley pleaded guilty to conduct causing a public nuisance.

Acting magistrate Patrick Murphy fined him $250 and the conviction was not recorded.
