All-abilities fun day to be held at Gladstone’s Lions Park after Covid-19 cancellation in 2020

An all-abilities fun day jam-packed with live entertainment, fun activities and a sausage sizzle is close to making a return in Gladstone. Will we see you there?

A community event which was described by organisers as a fun-filled afternoon for the whole family is close to making its return.

SpringABILITY embraces diversity and promotes the inclusion and abilities of all people in the region.

This year’s instalment of the event will take place on Thursday, September 9 from 1 to 5pm at the Lions (Sensory) Park on Dawson Highway.

Attendees can look forward to an afternoon packed with free entertainment by local artists, fun activities, information stalls, awards and food and drinks, including a sausage sizzle by Rosella Park School P & C, supported by Wattle Supports.

SpringABILITY was originally created from an objective of the Gladstone Disability Sector Network to engage all providers within their sector to collaborate by holding an all-inclusive event to connect the local community during Disability Action Week.

The inaugural event was held in 2018 and continued again in 2019.

Unfortunately the 2020 instalment was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the organising group are looking forward to bringing the event back this year.

The organising group for SpringABILITY 2021 is made up of representatives from different local organisations, including Mylestones Disability Employment Services CPL, Gladstone Community Linking Agency, Nhulundu Health Service, Wattle Supports, Rosella Park P & C, Bridges Health and Community Care, Community Solutions, Gladstone Regional Council, Salvation Army and Parent 2 Parent Qld.

Gaye Collins from Parent 2 Parent Queensland said the group had been very busy organising this year’s event to bring it back bigger and better.

“There’s been many changes and new services offered in our region since the last event was held in 2019 and we look forward to sharing that with the community to make them more aware and better informed on what is all available,” Ms Collins said.

SpringABILITY is set to be a fun-filled afternoon for the whole family and a fantastic way for everyone to be welcomed as valued and respected members of our community while being encouraged to join in on all the activities and connect with other community members and service providers.

Ms Collins said SpringABILITY was about promoting the abilities of all people and their economic participation in the Gladstone region.

“This event will also foster increased social participation and reduce the isolation felt daily,” Ms Collins said.

“We really hope the community supports this event by ‘springing’ into your abilities with us at SpringABILITY 2021.”
