A BRISBANE-based developer has launched a large format retail project — with a healthy difference — in north Queensland.

The CO:UP, a $15 million development at the Fairfield Homemaker Centre in Townsville, will have Olympic-standard climbing walls, specialist fitness facilities, purpose-designed studios for health professionals plus lifestyle food and beverage retailers.

The Geon Property development features 12 tenancies over two levels with 2650sq m of ground floor space, plus a further 1677sq m on level two.

Geon Property development manager Glen Wright said The CO:UP concept was a

response to skyrocketing interest in all-in-one health and fitness precincts, but with

a focus on community and social activity.

“The attraction of health and wellness precincts is well-recognised in big city areas,

but The CO:UP is a direct response to demand for first class facilities and an all-in

one concept by people in the regions,” he said.

Geon has already signed anchor tenant, Urban Climb, who will create a world

standard climbing gym which has already attracted interest from the likes of Olympic

sports climbing hopeful, Lucy Stirling.

“Joining Urban Climb will be Australia’s largest swim school operator and we are looking for a range of other retailers for things including a minigolf centre, pilates and yoga studio, day spa, cycle store and more,” Mr Wright said.

Geon Property has been behind a number of other projects in Townsville including The Precinct, Northside Square, Fairfield Homemaker Centre, Riverway Plaza and Weststate Private Hospital.
