Genea IVF clinic opens in Brisbane offering breakthrough technology

One of the country’s most successful IVF clinic has opened in Queensland offering patients access to breakthrough technology.

The new IVF breakthrough

Breakthrough technology that monitors embryo development through time lapse videos has arrived in Brisbane as one of the country’s most successful IVF clinics opens for the first time in Queensland.

The state’s first Genea IVF clinic is set to open as a part of the new $100m Herston Private Hospital Building, and will provide Queenslanders with a state of the art incubation system that’s shown a 12 per cent increase in the number of live births.

The machine, known as the Geri, is built to minimise disruptions in the incubation process while embryos are monitored using time lapse camera technology.

Video imagery shows the timeline of when each embryo divides so scientists can then choose the strongest embryo based on overall development rather than the final appearance.

Parents are even provided with updates on their embryo’s growth through an app that Dr Mark Bowman, medical director of Genea, said he hopes will simplify complex medical processes.

“We can send through updates to the patient and it can go alongside what the scientist has already told them. So it removes that procedural talk and the patient can actually understand what they’re being told,” he said.

Dr Bowman said there’s long been support for the clinic from interstate parents-to-be who’ve travelled far and wide to receive IVF from their clinic.

Now, with the localised clinic opening, that gap is finally closing for Queenslanders who are seeking assisted reproduction.

“I think what we’ve seen over the years with our unique technology and generalised personalised approach collectively means you get a higher number of embryos out of that system and potentially a higher number of babies,” he said.

“We’ve been conscious that, for more than a decade, people have been travelling from Queensland to New South Wales to access this technology. We’re so delighted that we can now offer it to Queenslanders closer to home.”

For the Brisbane-based medical director for the Genea clinic in Herston, Dr John Elser, the new location would be more convenient not just for those in Brisbane but for all over the state.

“There’s always a spot for high quality, world-renowned clinics in any major city and I think Genea has a worldwide reputation for scientific excellence,” he said.

The clinic has built it’s strong reputation through an analysis of data from comparison site Your IVF Success where it was found that three of Genea’s clinics in Newcastle, Wollongong and Canberra were the most successful IVF clinics in the country.
