Your say: Future of proposed Lockyer Valley Equine Precinct remains uncertain

A multimillion-dollar equine precinct has Lockyer Valley residents divided, with a number suggesting funding would be worth more in other areas of the region. Here’s what residents had to say.

The stalling of a multimillion-dollar equine precinct has Lockyer Valley residents questioning whether the project’s eye-watering costs could spent elsewhere.

Three years ago the Lockyer Valley Equine Precinct’s business case predicted construction would be completed by now on parts of stage one, however the project is still in planning mode in 2024.

Councillor Chris Wilson, who’s also the chairman of the equine collaborative, told the Gatton Star in a statement the master plan is being revisited and would be completed within 18-months.

Lockyer Valley residents have expressed their thoughts about the project on social media, with a number questioning whether millions of dollars could be spent in other parts of the region.

PROBABLY WON’T EVER HAPPEN

“What about something for the region’s dogs, here we have our own Lockyer Valley Kennel Club that is struggling to get grounds and yet there are empty grounds available,” Alan John Knight wrote.

“How about focusing on the conditions of our roads, flood mitigation,” Kaileana Lund wrote.

“Why can’t we spend money on the saleyards at Laidley instead of shutting them down, this is ludicrous,” Scott Reynolds wrote.

“It will go the same way as the airport precinct near Lake Clarendon that was approved about 15 years ago,” Nicole McGrath wrote.

“Need a proper hospital. The two horse shops in Gatton vanished because not enough show type horses here. Would sit empty costing money like the Cultural Centre,” Trisha Bond wrote.

“It’s already 20 years too late,” Corina Henriksen wrote.

“No funding has been made, this probably won’t ever happen,” Kevin Stewart wrote.
