Water bills in the Lockyer Valley and Somerset will change from October with an adjustment of tariffs announced by Urban Utilities today.

Residential water and sewerage bills in the Lockyer Valley will increase by 2.3 per cent, or an average of $5.40 a quarter from October 1, an Urban Utilities spokeswoman said.

In the Somerset, water and sewage bills will decrease by an average of $8.31 per quarter in Esk, and increase by an average $5.97 per quarter in Kilcoy.

The changes will align all regions with a $1.619 sewage charge per day, while Brisbane residents will pay $1.547/day.

Water service charges will be $0.649/day.

Spokeswoman Michelle Cull said Urban Utilities component of the bill was separate to the state bulk water charge, which is set and controlled by the Queensland government.

“We are making several important changes to our prices and tariffs next financial year to make them more consistent across our service region and easier for customers to understand,” she said.

“Prices are changing by different amounts in our five local council regions, some areas will see a decrease and others will see an increase.”

She said since Urban Utilities was formed, the company had made gradual changes to its prices and tariffs to be more consistent.

Customers are encouraged to contact Urban Utilities if they have questions about the changes.

“If any residents or businesses are having trouble paying their bills, we also urge them to get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can help,” Ms Cull said.
