This year’s much-anticipated Laidley Show is hanging by a thread after a snap three-day lockdown was announced by the premier on Tuesday morning.

The fate of the Laidley Show Society’s 2021 event will be decided tonight when the committee meets to discuss the latest coronavirus impacts.

On Tuesday, premier Anastasia Palaszczuk announced a three-day lockdown for south east Queensland and Townsville, which includes the Lockyer Valley and Somerset region.

Laidley Show Society president Craig Wass said the committee was struggling to make a decision about the long-awaited 2021 show.

The Lockyer Valley would emerge from strict restrictions at 6pm Friday night, providing there were no serious outbreaks across the state but that would leave organisers with just hours to set up pavilions, ovals and entertainment in order to host the show.

Mr Wass via the society’s Facebook page said the committee would meet tonight to decide.

“Please be patient while we work though what we will be able to do and not do,” he said.

“As you would realise, our messages are piling up so don’t be offended if your questions aren’t answered.”

Entries for the pavilion events were expected to start arriving on Wednesday, with organisers setting up on Thursday and judging on Friday.

Earlier this week, the society was forced to cancel its horticulture section due to a family crisis and cattle classes were also called off.
