A new equestrian club will have its maiden competition of the year in the Lockyer Valley, bringing together equestrians from across south east Queensland.

The Downs Arabian Club Inc will host its show at the Laidley showgrounds on July 25, with classes for led, under saddle and the ever-popular novelty events.

Club president Richard Sharman said the slow program schedule for competitors would be released shortly.

“This is incredibly encouraging news for all who are involved – from the club to competitors, spectators, sponsors and all the families and friends,” he said.

“However, this is an excited heads up for those young people wishing to attend to get ready now.”

The youth and non-professional show is a fun and relaxed environment for competitors and their horses to gain skills and confidence.

It provides equestrians a chance to dip their toes into the world of showing.

Admission is free – horse lover or not – to watch the show.

The club will also offer newbie classes for any horse and rider who is in their first year in showing.

Mr Sharman said as a volunteer organisation, the club was on the lookout for sponsors that could contribute to its competition prizes.
