HAPPY Australia Day! Across the nation, councils are awarding members and groups in the community for their outstanding contributions over the past year.

In the Somerset Region, we are lucky to have some excellent people who have won awards.

Congratulations to all award winners, and everyone who was nominated for an award.

The award winners were announced today during a special ceremony at the Somerset Civic Centre in Esk.

Citizen of the year: John Robinson from Kilcoy

Sports award: Meg Essex

Somerset Event of the year: The 140^th Anniversary of Glamorgan Vale State School

Community group of the year: Esk RSL Sub-Branch

Cultural Award: The Somerset Art Society
