The identity of a Somerset woman involved in a terrifying car accident with a school bus has been revealed as the community rallies to support her recovery.
Tammy Cook was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital on February 29 with critical head and leg injuries after the 42-year-old was involved in the serious two-vehicle crash on Esk Crows Nest Rd.
Ms Cook remains in hospital with her close friends and family rallying around her.
A GoFundMe has been set up by friend Justine Mahoney to assist the Cook family with travel and medical expenses during this time.
In only a matter of days the fundraiser has already picked up a number of donations and has a goal of $4000.
The Gatton and Lockyer Valley Star has reached out to Ms Cook’s family for comment.
Woman seriously injured in crash
A morning bus run to turned into a horror crash for a group of Toogoolawah State High School students.
The bus was travelling along Esk Crows Nest Rd towards Biarra just after 8am on February 29 when it collided with another vehicle.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said crews arrived to find the driver of the vehicle trapped.
The QFES spokesman said crews worked quickly using hydraulic cutting gear to free the woman from a wreck in less than 20 minutes.
No injuries have been reported for the three occupants on the bus, with reports of minor damage to its front.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said teams had assessed four patients on the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 40s, was in a critical condition with significant head and leg injuries, and was flown via an RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue spokesman said a Toowoomba based crew were able to land nearby at about 8.30am.
Queensland Police Service later confirmed the bus driver, a 61-year-old man and his two passengers were not physically injured during the incident.
The forensic crash unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
A Department of Education spokesman said they are aware of a traffic incident involving a bus carrying two Toogoolawah State High School students which occurred this morning.
“Queensland Ambulance Service attended and assessed the driver and passengers of the
bus with no significant injuries reported to them,” he said.
The two students were released safely into the care of their families.
The education spokesman said the school was in contact with the affected families and will continue to monitor the students’ wellbeing.
